Israel has revoked the diplomatic credentials of Dutch officials stationed in the occupied West Bank, a move that intensifies its diplomatic conflict with the Netherlands. This decision comes as a response to the Netherlands’ recent restrictions on goods originating from Israeli settlements in the region.
According to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the Dutch Embassy was notified that its diplomats working in Ramallah are required to return their Israeli-issued diplomatic documents within seven days. The Netherlands’ restrictions, which took effect on September 22, have been met with strong opposition from Israel, which has consistently criticized any measures targeting its settlements.
Sa’ar further stated that while the Dutch officials could continue their activities in the West Bank, they would need to obtain authorization from the Palestinian Authority to do so. This development is part of a broader pattern of escalating tensions between Israel and several European nations over Israeli settlement policies and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
