Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on Israel to halt the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank and to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. These remarks were made during a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on the sidelines of a conference in Azerbaijan, as reported by China’s Foreign Ministry.
Wang emphasized that the Palestinian issue represents a significant historical injustice and urged for a political resolution to the conflict. He advocated for the immediate improvement of humanitarian access to Gaza, highlighting the deteriorating conditions there. Additionally, Wang expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with the international community to encourage dialogue and pursue a peaceful solution.
China has long supported a two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. Beijing has also been active in promoting Palestinian reconciliation and diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions across the Middle East.
During the discussions, Herzog focused on bilateral relations and the broader regional dynamics, underlining Israel’s desire for peace while expressing concerns about security, particularly in relation to Iran and its allies in the region.
The situation in Gaza remains precarious despite a ceasefire that began in October 2025. Challenges persist due to ongoing Israeli strikes, displacement, and humanitarian issues, with progress towards furthering the ceasefire agreement stalling amid mutual accusations of violations by Israel and Hamas.
This latest diplomatic exchange underscores ongoing international efforts to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and revive diplomatic negotiations.
