China has solidified its resolve to deepen partnerships with Central Asian nations, a commitment highlighted during Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to Kyrgyzstan. The focus of the visit was on enhancing regional cooperation and multilateral engagement. Wang met with leaders and foreign ministers from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, where discussions revolved around boosting collaboration through platforms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the China–Central Asia mechanism, and the United Nations.
In Kyrgyzstan, China expressed its support for the nation’s upcoming role as host of the SCO Bishkek Summit, pledging to uphold Kyrgyzstan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both countries agreed to intensify their coordination efforts concerning regional peace, security, and development. A similar tone was echoed in talks with Uzbekistan, where China emphasized the significance of progressing on the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway project. They also explored expanding partnerships in burgeoning sectors such as artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, and modern industrial development.
Meanwhile, China and Tajikistan reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening bilateral relations, aiming to enhance practical cooperation in fields like energy and regional connectivity. This commitment follows the signing of a long-term friendship and cooperation treaty earlier in the year, underscoring the mutual interest in fostering closer ties.
The visit by Wang Yi highlighted China’s strategic focus on Central Asia, underscoring the nation’s interest in infrastructure development, trade, technological advancement, and regional stability. By engaging with these Central Asian countries, China seeks to bolster its influence and cooperation across various sectors, ensuring a robust partnership that reflects its growing role in the region.
