Trump Confirms “Really Big Powerful Ships” Heading to Iran But Won’t Reveal Attack Plans

Donald Trump has acknowledged deploying significant naval forces toward Iran while maintaining strict secrecy about his ultimate military intentions. In remarks to reporters on Saturday, the president declined to confirm whether he had made a final decision about potential military action against Tehran. “I certainly can’t tell you that,” Trump said, adding that the United States has sent “really big powerful ships heading in that direction,” a statement that has fueled speculation about imminent military operations.

The crisis centers on Iran’s nuclear programme, which Western intelligence services assess is aimed at developing nuclear weapons despite Iranian denials. Trump indicated that while military options are being prepared, his administration has not abandoned hope for a negotiated settlement. “I hope to negotiate something that’s acceptable,” the president stated, making clear that his preferred outcome would be “a negotiated deal that would be satisfactory with no nuclear weapons.”

The president’s current nuclear-focused strategy marks a shift from his earlier threats connected to Iran’s domestic turmoil. Trump had warned of military consequences if Iranian forces killed protesters during the widespread demonstrations that began in late December and peaked in early January. Iranian authorities have since confirmed that more than 3,000 people died during the protests, though they claim most were security forces or bystanders killed by what they describe as violent rioters rather than peaceful demonstrators.

Trump also addressed statements attributed to Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, who reportedly cautioned that US reluctance to strike Iran would only strengthen Tehran’s position. The president offered a diplomatic response, acknowledging different viewpoints on the issue. “Some people think that and some people don’t,” Trump said, suggesting that his administration is carefully considering various strategic perspectives before committing to a course of action.

Iran has countered American military posturing with its own propaganda campaign. Throughout Tehran, billboards and banners have been erected to bolster public support for the government and project defiance toward the United States. One massive poster graphically depicts an American aircraft carrier being destroyed, sending an unmistakable message about Iran’s willingness to fight back. Despite this hostile messaging, Trump revealed that diplomatic communications continue, with Iran “seriously talking to us” about potential agreements. The president expressed uncertainty about whether these talks will ultimately succeed, noting that while Iran appears engaged in serious discussions, it remains unclear whether Tehran will actually agree to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
